Honor code

1. What belongs here

Study material for a course: work you wrote yourself, or material you are otherwise free to share. If it helped you learn the subject, it will probably help the next student too.

When you upload, you tell us which course it belongs to and what kind of material it is. That is all the sorting we ask of you.

2. What you must not upload

Two rules, and they cover everything:

• Nothing you do not hold the rights to. If you did not create it and the copyright owner has not given you permission to share it, do not upload it.
• Nothing confidential. If a document was given to you in confidence, or says on its face that it is not to be shared, it does not belong here.

Please also leave out anyone's personal information. If you are unsure about something, ask us before you upload — we would rather answer a question than remove an upload.

3. What you confirm when you upload

Every upload carries one short attestation, which we record with the time it was made:

Uploading must also not break your school's academic integrity policy, our terms of service or our copyright policy.

Uploaders are anonymous on the site: no name, handle or account is shown on a material to other users. Your file is stored exactly as you send it. We never alter its content, add anything to its pages, or change its embedded properties — the document's own title, author and copyright information are shown as uploaded.

4. Every upload is reviewed

Nothing is public until a person at Bookface has looked at it. We keep what belongs here and remove what does not. When we remove something you uploaded we may tell you why, so you can fix it and try again. Removed uploads earn nothing.

5. Page views

Reading a material costs its page count in page views, once — after that it is yours to reread for free. Page 1 is always a free preview. You earn page views by uploading (1 per page, credited when the upload is approved, with no limit on how much you can earn), by ordering a book (10 per purchase or rental order), or by buying them at a cent a page in $5 steps. Page views never expire. Nothing you earn or buy unlocks a specific document; page views are reading capacity you spend wherever you like. Materials from openly licensed sources are free to read.

6. Using what you find

Study material is for studying. Do not copy what you read here and submit it as your own work, and do not use it where you have been told not to use outside help. Doing either is on you, not on the person who shared their notes.

7. Reports and enforcement

Anyone can report a material from its page, and a person reads every report. Material that is reported enough times is hidden until it has been reviewed. Breaking this honor code ends your access to the exchange.

If you own the rights to something you find here, or you teach the course it came from, you do not need to use the report button — send us a copyright notice and we will act on it quickly. Our copyright policy explains the process.
